The West Geauga Recreation Council will be offering recreational basketball for boys in Pre-K through 8th grade as well as for girls in Pre-K through 6th grade. Registration for boys is now open. Girls registration will begin shortly after details have been finalized. Girls basketball is scheduled to begin in January 2012.
Wolverine Cubs Boys Division
Boys in Pre-K or Kindergarten, the program will be held on Tuesday nights beginning November 1 through December 6, 2011 from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at Westwood Elementary School, which is located on Caves Road in Chesterland. The fee is $65 per child and includes a jersey. This is an introductory program that teaches basic fundamentals like dribbling, passing and shooting.
Wolverine Cubs Basketball
Boys and girls in Pre-K and Kindergarten, the program will be held on Tuesday nights beginning January 2 through February 7, 2012 from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at Lindsey Elementary School. Coaches from Jump Start Sports will run this instructional and recreational basketball program for young children. Players are taught the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense and rebounding. They will then apply what they have learned in recreational games. Parents are welcome to help assist with coaching.
Little Wolverine Boys Division
Boys in 1st and 2nd grades, the program will be held on Thursday nights beginning November 3, 2011 through January 19, 2012. Depending on enrollment, teams will rotate sessions and meet at 6:30 PM at Westwood Elementary School, which is located on Caves Road in Chesterland. The fee is $75 per child and includes a jersey. Each session will include drills and half-court games.
Wolverine Boys Basketball
Boys in the 3rd through 8th grade, will start with a skills assessment on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at West Geauga Middle School. Players will then meet Saturdays starting January 7, 2012 through February 25, 2012. Boys in the 3rd through 5th grade report at 12:30 PM and boys in the 6th through 8th grade report at 10:00 AM. The fee is $90 per child and includes a jersey. Each session will include instruction and games.
Girls Recreational Basketball
Girls in grades 1 – 6, the program will be held on Thursday nights beginning January 5 through February 9, 2012. Coaches from Jump Start Sports will run this instructional and recreational basketball program for girls. Players will expound upon the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense and rebounding. They will then apply what they have learned in recreational basketball games. Parents are welcome and encouraged to help assist with coaching.
