Grades 1-2 / 3-4 is a co-ed league. Grades 1 – 4 typically play only against teams within the WGRC league. (Each session is set up for a half hour practice, then a half hour game for grades 1-2 and a forty minute game for grades 3-4. Depending on how many Grade 3-4 registrations are received, there may be an opportunity to play other local communities.)
Cost for Grades 5-8: $50 ($45 if registered and paid by March 1st)
Requirements: Shin guards, soccer cleats, soccer ball and water bottle.
For grades 5 to 8, we will try to create all-girl and all-boy teams if there are enough players to do so. Otherwise, co-ed teams will be formed. Typically, there is one practice and one game per week. Grades 5 and up typically play inter-community (usually Mentor, Kenston, Middlefield, Kirtland, and Newbury.)
Program Description: The primary goals of the Grades 1-8 programs are for children to have fun and learn the rules and key skills of soccer. The season consists of practice sessions and games. Practice sessions will teach the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, ball control, positioning, defense, and shooting. While games are competitive and winning is fun, both parents and children are reminded that it is not all about winning. Both parents and children are encouraged to practice good sportsmanship. Each child receives a team t-shirt. Leagues are organized by grades (with age cut-offs) to allow children to progress as their skills and coordination grows.
